We’ll that’s just awkward

This weekend is the Route 66 book signing down in Oklahoma City. Needless to say, I’m insanely excited to be taking part in this intimate signing from Southern Belle Book Blog, Typical Distractions blog and author Hilaria Alexander. Individually, these three are incredibly awesome in their own right, but combined they are the dream team and they’ve created an incredible reader-author experience for us all to enjoy.

Now … with that said … I always feel like I need to come with a warning label whenever I walk into a signing …

You see … I’ll be the first to admit that I’m awkward. Not awkward in the sense that I do something socially unacceptable or disturbing like keep toenail clippings from the past two decades or hold people’s gaze for so long it becomes uncomfortable or stand facing everyone in an uncrowded elevator.

But more so awkward in that lovable relative who always seems to say the most random, inappropriate things at the most inopportune time. Kind of like one of those horrifically loud, high-pitched, squeaky farts in the middle of silent prayer during Sunday mass. Not that I know that from personal experience (I promise, I don’t). I am clearly the reason why we can’t have nice things.

Let’s be honest. It’s a miracle I’m allowed out in public most days. By some grace, I’m able to hide my awkwardness under the guise of inherent charm or a quirky demeanor. And it works.

But I know that one day, someone is going to stop and call me out on it.

“Dude. She’s really fucking awkward.”

And I’ll smile and I’ll nod because I’ve known all along just how true that statement really is.

Yes, I know I often seem outgoing. And to an extent — I am. But it most often happens once I’m comfortable with my little circle of friends. But at first glance, I come off awkward and shy. Kind of like this guy here …

So I guess the moral of the story is, if you ever see me at a signing, don’t hesitate to stop by my table and say hi! I can promise I won’t bite (at least not very hard!), but I can’t promise I won’t be a little awkward.

Grab your tickets for the Route 66 Author Event for $10 or pick them up at the door for $15. I’d love to meet some new faces and reconnect with old ones, too!! Will I be seeing you soon!?

Oh!! And we’re only a few short days from Book+Main being live! Make sure you’ve pre-registered so you can check out the awesome content waiting for you on the other side!
